Lamberg, Medrano to Lead Team USA to Amp Soccer World Cup

June 2014 - Dr. Eric Lamberg and four time World Cup veteran Ignacio (Nacho) Medrano, and have been named Head Coach and Assistant Coach for the 2014 US National Amputee Soccer Team.

The two will lead the team in its preparation for the Amputee Soccer World Cup to be held in Mexico this Fall.

Both men have extensive soccer backgrounds. Lamberg, a professor at Stony Brook University, Long Island, New York, is the university's primary faculty member teaching about amputation, prosthetics and rehabilitation.

He's a lifetime soccer player and holds several soccer coaching certificates. He's been coaching soccer on Long Island for the past five years.

Medrano has been playing amputee soccer at the international level since 1997, served as National Team Co-captain in the 2000 and 2001 World Cup tournaments, and was named Team Captain in 2011.

Lamberg and Medrano recently conducted an open tryout in Myrtle Beach, SC. The next open tryout will be held August 8 & 9, at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Maryland, near Washington DC.
